Quilted Mahogany snares
A retiring bass-builder once let me pick out a few boards from his remarkable wood collection. Among it, I was lucky enough to find some very rare quilted mahogany, which he’d only let go if it was made into something truly worthwhile.
The curly grain of the wood made me worry if it was able to be steam bent without breaking. Even so, I pressed forward and decided to attempt bending this valuable wood and the results speak for themselves.
This wood is in very short supply, as such the number of snares made from it will be very limited.
